DOVER, DE -- Kent County Tourism is pleased to announce a full slate of wineries and breweries, representing all areas of Delaware, that will be participating in the 2nd Annual Delaware Wine & Beer Festival, set for Sunday, October 23 at Pizzadili Winery & Vineyards, located just off of Route 13 in Felton, a few minutes south of Dover. Premier sponsor of the 2011 festival is the Delaware Wine & Ale Trail, created by the Delaware Tourism office to promote Delaware's growing wine and beer industry. It is a unique collection of 13 locations throughout the state that welcome and educate visitors about the production of Delaware wines and brews.
The exclusive national cheese sponsor of the event is Cabot Creamery Cooperative of Vermont, makers of a full line of award-winning cheeses, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and butter. With more than 50 prestigious awards to its credit including every major award for taste, Cabot Clothbound Cheddar was most recently named "best in class" at the World Championship Cheese Contest.
"We are very pleased to be working with our brewers and vintners, as well as Pizzadili Vineyard and Winery on our second annual event," said Lorraine Dion, Director of Public Relations and Special Events for Kent County Tourism, a non-profit organization sponsoring the event. "The popularity and interest in craft-brewed beer and locally made wine continues to grow, plus we have more activities planned for this year's festival ."
The event will be held from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Admission, which will include nearly unlimited sampling, will be $25 in advance with and $35 at the door. Advance ticket sales will include a souvenir wine or beer glass. Non-tasting admission is $5 for adults and free to children 18 and younger. Full pours of wine and beer will be available for sale along with non-alcoholic beverages and food provided by Pizzadili Catering.
Festival-goers will have the opportunity to meet Delaware's vintners and brewers and talk about their locations, their products and their processes. Tours of the winery will be available throughout the day, and the retail shop will be open. Festival goers can participate in a keg tossing competition and a corn hole tournament with prizes. Paul Cullen, former bass player from the band Bad Company, will perform on acoustic guitar.
The event will be held rain or shine inside a covered pavilion. A limited number of admission tickets may be sold at the door, if not sold out in advance.
