It’s always tough to post something like this, but the simple fact is that running a brewery is still very difficult, very time consuming and VERY risky, especially in today’s economy. I’m sad to report that in just the last few weeks we’ve seen 6 different US breweries go out of business:
Bavarian Barbarian Brewing Co (PA), BuckBean Brewing Co (NV), Airdale Brewing (CA), Kelly Brothers Brewing (CA), Bee Creek Brewing Co (IN) & The Local Pub & Brewery (MI) all have closed their doors in 2012.
Considering the Brewers Association lists 4 closures in the last quarter of 2011, this isn’t a good sign. Late 2011 saw Port 44 (NJ), Falcon Brewing (CO), Hallenbrick Brewery (NM) and Nibble Bit Tabby Brewery (CA) all close. With SO many new breweries popping up, it should be an interesting year to see who sinks and who swims.
