CONCORD, CA (March 12, 2024) – Side Gate Brewery & Beer Garden, a premier beer garden in Northern California, has crowned the winners of its 2024 Homebrew Competition, the “Belgian Beer Bonanza.” The homebrewers were tasked with creating impressive varieties of Belgian-style beers, and out of 50 competitors, only one was able to claim the title of Best of Show and receive the coveted opportunity to co-brew at Side Gate Brewery.
Certified BJCP (Beer Judge Certificate Program) Judges awarded winners across five style categories, in addition to a Best of Show winner:
· Side Gate Homebrew Competition Winner, Best of Show: “Belgian Single” by Paul Brown
· Saison: “Table Saison,” by Taylor Shastid
· Belgian Strongs (Dark): “Belgian Dubbel” by Zack and Jan Newbegin
· Other Belgians: “Belgian IPA” by Rick Story
· Belgian Strongs (Pale): “Belgian Golden Strong,” by Taylor Shastid
· Belgian Standard Strength Pale: “Belgian Single” by Paul Brown
Category winners received medals; and the Best of Show winner, Paul Brown, will be brewing his Belgian Single with the brewers at Side Gate to release on tap later in this Spring.
In its second installment, the Side Gate Homebrew Competition allows homebrewers’ dreams to come true by scaling up production of their homebrews to be poured and enjoyed in their taproom and beer garden. Side Gate partnered with the DOZE Home Brew club, nationally recognized as one of the premier clubs in the country, to help facilitate coordination, judging and promote the competition to a vast network of homebrewers.
