From Heavy Seas:
Baltimore, MD (February 27, 2024): Heavy Seas Beer, Maryland’s pioneering craft brewery, proudly announces its partnership with local Baltimore runner, Tom Yorke, in support of the monumental “MS Run the US” relay. Covering a staggering 3,260 miles across the United States, this relay stands as a testament to resilience and dedication in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Partnering with Tom, the first Maryland-native to participate in this relay, Heavy Seas aims to amplify awareness and fundraising efforts for MS research, while extending support to individuals impacted by MS.
Driven by his deeply personal connection to MS, as both his wife and sister battle with the disease, Tom will embark on the physical feat of running 151 miles in 6 days from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to Brookeville, Pennsylvania, in July 2024.
"Running alongside the Heavy Seas Beer team in the 'MS Run the US' relay is not just about covering miles; it's about covering ground in the fight against MS, a cause deeply personal to me,” says Tom Yorke. “Together, we stride towards a future free from the grip of this disease."
Tom’s participation in the “MS Run the US” relay requires raising $10,000. In solidarity with his mission and fundraising endeavors, Heavy Seas will host a series of fundraising events in its Taproom, located in Halethorpe, MD, from March through July. During these events, Heavy Seas will contribute a portion of proceeds from every pint sold to Tom’s cause. The kickoff event is scheduled for Thursday, March 7th, from 4pm to 9pm, with subsequent events occurring bi-weekly until July 11th. Caroline Sisson, Heavy Seas Marketing Director, emphasizes the significance of Tom’s journey, stating, “At Heavy Seas, our mission goes beyond brewing craft beer. We strive to make a positive impact in our communities. Tom’s story is remarkable - and while his upcoming run may seem daunting to some, it’s his unwavering commitment to this cause that we deeply respect.”
Heavy Seas Beer, which celebrated its 28th anniversary in December, is dedicated to producing top-tier quality, flavorful craft beers. However, the company is no stranger to challenges that many businesses face.
“Our company is 28 years old - which is no small feat - but that doesn’t mean it’s been easy. But, that’s also life, isn’t it? Nothing is easy. We’ve worked hard, taken risks, and experienced both successes and failures. It’s the tough times throughout our tenure that have made us better and even more committed to crafting exceptional beer. Heavy Seas Beer is all about embracing challenges head-on, and we seek to align ourselves with individuals and organizations that share our passion for overcoming obstacles in pursuit of their passions and missions.”

About MS Run the US
MS Run the US is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support Multiple sclerosis (MS) - to provide hope, to aid those living with disability from the disease and to support research to stop it. MS Run the US Ultra Relay is America's first and only annual cross-country relay run. Since the organization's first relay in 2013, MS Run the US has raised over 2.3 million dollars, run over 25,000 miles, and has helped every day runners realize their potential to be extraordinary athletes and fundraisers for the MS cause. "I ran across America for my mother and felt how that commitment changed my life. Now MS Run the US hosts the relay so other runners can have the same thing; an opportunity to be empowered amidst the challenges of MS." - Ashley Schneider, founder and executive director.
