Greenwood One of Only Two Mississippi Cities to Land Immersive Van Gogh Experience
GREENWOOD, MS , [November 20, 2023] – The growing stature of the Museum of the Delta in Greenwood, Mississippi has earned its selection as one of only two museums in the state to host the “Van Gogh for All” immersive Van Gogh experience. The other was the prestigious Lauren Rodgers Museum in Laurel, whose “Van Gogh for All” installation just ended Nov. 5. The exhibit will be open to the public from Dec. 1, 2023 through March 1, 2024.
Before arriving in Mississippi, the exhibit entertained visitors in the much bigger cities of Chicago; Houston; Springfield, Massachusetts; and Charleston, West Virginia.
“Needless to say, we were thrilled to be chosen,” says Lisa Cookson, Executive Director of the Museum of the Delta. “If what we’ve heard from other locations happens here, we’re expecting this will bring in visitors not only from the local Greenwood area, but it will draw from all over the region.”
"Van Gogh for All" is designed to captivate and immerse visitors in the colorful world of Vincent van Gogh. From art and historical enthusiasts to the whole family, this traveling exhibition will take guests through van Gogh’s work from his time in Arles, Saint-Rémy and Auvers sur Oise.
"Van Gogh for All," organized by the Dolores Kohl Education Foundation, is a hands-on experience designed to encourage people of all ages to view art through the lens of one of history’s most celebrated artists. Utilizing modern technology and interactive learning to immerse and transport guests into the world of Vincent van Gogh, visitors will be granted insight into his genius, his challenges and how he created his most world-renowned pieces.
At "Van Gogh for All," visitors can witness and interact with large, 3D versions of van Gogh's paintings, and step even further into his world through life-size recreations of his bedroom, studio and his iconic “Café Terrace at Night.” Patrons will also have an opportunity to try their hand at creating still life and self-portraits through various workshops.
One of the most exciting pieces of this exhibit is a 12-foot-wide interactive screen that lets visitors dive into van Gogh’s most famous painting and dreamscape, "Starry Night." The interactive screen offers a unique way to get up close and personal with the artwork’s familiar swirling stars and vivid colors that have captivated people across the world for more than a hundred years.
For patrons who want to experience van Gogh’s masterpieces as they are, the exhibit will have replicas of some of his most famous paintings, including “The Yellow House,” “Irises,” “The Siesta,” “The Bedroom,” “The Postman,” “Self-Portrait” and the famous “Sunflowers” – all recreated with great care to capture the spirit of van Gogh’s iconic art.
“Greenwood Convention & Visitors Bureau is excited to celebrate the art of Vincent van Gogh right here in our town and be able to share the experience with our visitors from all over the U.S. and abroad,” says Ashley Farmer, Executive Director. “People can package a visit to the exhibit with other attractions in Greenwood and the Delta and stay a few nights.”
“Van Gogh for All” celebrates an artist who has been admired for generations around the world. It offers a rare and immersive chance to learn about his life, appreciate the beauty of his mind and understand his impact on art as we know it today.
