Mountain House Invites Backpackers to Take a Step Towards Ending Childhood Hunger with Prize-Packed Recycling Contest

Keeping Trails Clean and Helping Underprivileged Children are Rewards in Themselves but Collectors Can Get Even More for their Efforts

TRENTON, N.J., September 13, 2023 – The maker of popular portable freeze-dried meals, Mountain House, is giving “leave no trace” a new meaning with a newly-announced contest that challenges backpackers and outdoors enthusiasts to collect Mountain House plastic flexible pouches for recycling through TerraCycle, an international leader in innovative sustainability solutions.

From September 1st through October 31st, 2023, the top 3 collectors that mail in the most Mountain House packaging to TerraCycle through the Mountain House Free Recycling Program will each receive a Mountain House freeze-dried meal assortment bucket and a special, Mountain House-branded edition of a Ranger 2.0 Solo Stove for their efforts. Additionally, Mountain House will donate 100 meals for every 10 pouches received during the contest period to international non-profit Kids Against Hunger to combat childhood food insecurity.

Participation is easy: consumers are invited to create an account on TerraCycle.com, sign-up for the Mountain House Free Recycling Program via https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/mountain-house and mail in the packaging waste using the provided prepaid shipping label. Once collected, the packaging is cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products.

The Mountain House Free Recycling Program is an ongoing collection program, open to any individual, family, school or community group. For each piece of waste sent in using a prepaid shipping label, participants earn points that can be redeemed for charitable prizes or cash donations to the school or charity of their choice.
