MASSIVE! BARLEYWINE IS HERE!
TIME TO GET FESTIVE!
zzubreebym
We brew Massive! each year with just one malt, and then boil it for over 8 hours to create a barleywine with a deep ruby color and rich malt flavor. We then age the beer for an extended time in a variety of select spirit barrels.
This year we chose the richly flavored Skagit Pilot Malt from from Skagit Valley, Washington. We then aged the beer in Bourbon, Rum, Rye, Highland Scotch, Islay Scotch and Irish Whiskey barrels.
These beers are all perfect for celebrating and toasting during the holidays. They also make a great gift for a friend or loved one. We suggest buying a few and laying them down in your cellar to age. The richness and intensity can be enjoyed now or after years and years and years of aging.
The MASSIVE! Varietals are available in bottle today at all THREE locations: The Brewery and Champagne Lounge (5224 SE 26th Ave) and Robot Room (6935 NE Glisan St) and our brand new Hawthorne Pub (4343 SE Hawthorne Blvd).
(Yes, we quietly opened the new Hawthorne Pub. Its our first location with food, so we wanted to ease in to it. More details on a Grand Opening celebration for the Hawthorne location coming next week. Hawthorne Pub is open Mon-Fri 3-9pm, Sat-Sun noon-9pm.)
The MASSIVE! label art was created by American quilter Ben Venom. Venom works with repurposed materials to create textile-based pieces that contrast the often menacing and aggressive counterculture components of gangs, punk/metal music, and the occult with the comforts of domesticity. This collision of traditional quilting techniques with elements tied to the fringes of society re-envisions the story of the material through a softer lens.
Ben Venom created the quilt that became the art for our beer High Voltage IPA a few years back, and is now on display at our Hawthorne location. That quilt is made up of Gigantic Brewing t-shirts. Make sure to get a close look next time you stop in to Hawthorne.
We're looking forward to working with Ben on future releases on MASSIVE! in the years to come and seeing what amazing quilts he creates.
12 Beers of Gristmas Holiday Ale Trail starts TODAY!
We have partnered up with Ex Novo Brewing and 11 other breweries to help celebrate the holiday season! Each brewery has selected a beer to be named after the 12 Days of Christmas song.
Gigantic made a deliciously festive Cranberry Raspberry Tart for the winter season. During the 12 Days of Gristmas we are ceremoniously naming it "3 French Hens".
Here's how 12 Days of Gristmas works:
Get your friends together to try some of the beers (or all the beers), stamp your passports at each brewery, and support local businesses this holiday season! The more breweries you visit, the more chances you have at winning one of the several gift baskets at the Ex Novo party on December 16th. Passports are available at any participating brewery and no purchase is necessary.
Drop by any Gigantic location to get your "3 French Hens" stamp.
