I’ve been lucky enough to get a chance to taste most of the Summit Brewing beers from the early days of their beer first hitting PA markets. I’ve enjoyed them on the beach, in bars and restaurants and even on my own couch; and if I wasn’t sold on their beers then, I was instantly sold when I interviewed their brewmaster Damian McConn on the radio.
Today I’m getting a chance to try out a new beer coming from Summit called Twins Pils. If the name and packaging aren’t a giveaway, this beer is once again being brewed for Minnesota Twins baseball. First began in April 2021, this partnership may have helped lead the Twins to the World Series in 2021, but even if it doesn’t do the same in 2022, we’re all winners for getting to enjoy Twins Pils.
The packaging is inspired by the Twins’ uniforms from the 1980s (when Summit Brewing opened it’s doors) and the beer is a classic German-style pilsner patterned after Summit’s Keller Pils. Of course I can’t wait to take a swing at this beer…so off we go.
Summit Brewing Twins Pils
ABV: 5.1%
IBU: 38
Style: Keller Pilsner
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Clear golden
Aroma: Biscuit, honey & grains
Mouthfeel: Full bodied & lightly chewy
Taste: Toasted bread, biscuit, lemon citrus and mild honey sweetness
Overall: Twins Pils is loaded with classic pilsner flavors. The toasted bread, biscuit and grain flavors dominate, but there's a pleasant sweet honey and dry spicy finish that make it a really drinkable pils. Overall the beer is complex with a clean and satisfying crisp finish making it the perfect baseball beer.
Summit Twins Pils is available now in 12oz cans (12-packs) and on draft as well. It will also be available in 16oz cans at Target Field so get out there are take a swing at one for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
