I should admit up front that I’ve never tasted a single beer from today’s brewery, so it was very exciting to get a care package at mybeebuzz headquarters yesterday from Reuben’s Brews in Seattle, WA.
Started in 2012 by Adam and Grace Robbings and named after their first child, Reuben’s Brews has a unique philosophy on brewing. As they put it, “At our family brewery we brew from the glass backwards: designing each beer with intention, unbound by constraints. We know making that extra effort is worth it. From your everyday favorites beers to our innovative new releases, we help you grow your love of beer.”
Today we’ll be sampling their new fall/winter 2021 seasonal, Stay Frosty IPA. This beer is a Cold IPA so rather than the traditional ale yeast found in most IPAs, Stay Frosty uses a lager yeast and ferments at colder temperatures. The beer also uses flaked rice for clarity and crispness and if that’s not enough, it is also dry-hopped at the end of fermentation to add even more hop flavor.
Naturally I’m excited to try it out, so off we go…
Reuben’s Brews Stay Frosty IPA
ABV: 6.9%
IBU: 50
Style: Cold IPA
Packaging: 12oz Cans
Appearance: Clear golden straw
Aroma: Mild citrus and earthy hops
Mouthfeel: Medium to light
Taste: Citrus and mild dank earthy hops
Overall: Reuben’s Brews Stay Frosty IPA has a really unique combination of crisp and clean drinkability like a lager, with a west coast-like hop presence of an ale. The beer is both refreshing and drinkable, but also hoppy and satisfying. Overall I think the Cold IPA style is here to stay, and Reuben’s Brews Stay Frosty IPA is a great example of why.
Reuben’s Brews Stay Frosty IPA is available now in 12oz cans across their distribution footprint so get out there are try one for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
