As much as I love a good IPA, I also love getting a chance to sample a beer from a brewery that I’ve never had a chance to visit or a chance to taste their beer. Today’s beer is an IPA and that brewery is 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg, FL (so I get to do both). One of the largest independent breweries in Florida, 3 Daughters began with the simple question, “How many beers does it take to put three daughters through college?” 3 Daughters Brewing opened it’s doors in Dec 2013 and they continue to answer that question today.
This afternoon I’ll be sampling 3 Daughters Former New England IPA and if you’re not familiar (or a follower of the NFL), the beer was brewed in honor of Tom Brady’s move from New England to Tampa, FL. As 3 Daughters describes it, “The beer itself is a Florida twist on a classic American brew, a citrusy and crushable version of the traditional New England-style IPA, highlighting the flavors of the Sunshine State while giving a nod to the history of great brewing in New England.” Naturally I can’t wait to try it, so off we go…
3 Daughters Brewing Former New England IPA
ABV: 6.9%
IBU: 30
Style: NEIPA
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Amber gold and slightly hazy
Aroma: Citrus & passion fruit
Mouthfeel: Medium
Taste: Fresh orange, grapefruit and mango
Overall: Former New England IPA has a really nice aromatic punch of citrus in the nose followed by some really classic NEIPA flavors. The beer is juice-forward with a prominent hop presence and overall I though the balance made for a really satisfying and drinkable IPA.
3 Daughters Brewing Former New England IPA is available now in 12oz cans at retailers throughout the Tampa Bay area including select Publix, Total Wine & More and ABC Fine Wine and Spirits…so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
