I’ll admit up front that I rarely get to sample any beers from today’s brewery. For many years I did travel to Spokane, WA for Easter and I did manage to try a few beers from 10 Barrel Brewing, but definitely not the one I’m highlighting today….so a big thank you to 10 Barrel for sending it along.
I think it was the skier on the original label that caught my eye when I first saw the packaging for Profuse Juice, but after reading a bit more I realized it was a beer that fell right in my hazy IPA sweet-spot. At 6.5%-AbV and 45 IBU, 10 Barrel calls this beer the “ultimate summer IPA” and I think I’d have to agree. Of course it helps that 1% of the profits from the sale of Profuse Juice benefit the Surfrider Foundation, but the beer itself feels like a modern-day instant hazy classic. In other words, I feel like I’ve been drinking this beer for years, but it’s a relatively new beer. Of course it’s time to sample, so off we go…
10 Barrel Brewing Profuse Juice
ABV: 6.5%
IBU: 45
Style: Hazy IPA
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Hazy golden orange
Aroma: Citrus and a touch of orange and tangerine
Mouthfeel: Light carbonation & easy drinking
Taste: Juicy citrus and oranges lead the way followed by more tropical fruit and a slightly bitter grapefruit ending.
Overall: Profuse Juice is a really drinkable, enjoyable and yes sessionable beer even at 6.5%-AbV. The balance of juice-forward hops and a slightly bitter finish make for a great beer that feels like a hazy New England-style IPA, but also drinks like a classic west coast-style IPA.
10 Barrel Profuse Juice is is available now in 12oz cans so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
