NEW SPECIAL RELEASES DROP SATURDAY
PLUS: We've added an option to this sale to tip our recently furloughed staff. Any contributions are deeply appreciated. It's been an incredibly difficult couple of weeks all across the country, and it was certainly no exception here at MT. With reopening phase rollbacks and payroll protection loans exhausted, we've been forced to furlough many of our Los Angeles, San Diego, Encinitas, and Santa Barbara hospitality employees. To say that this is heartbreaking for us doesn't begin to cover how we're feeling, and we are doing everything in our power to get the affected members of our staff back on board as soon as possible. Which is why, no matter how awkward it might feel for us to be advertising a special release sale right now, it's never been more important to keep Modern Times above water and pushing forward.
In an effort to help out our furloughed employees—and because we know many of you have built relationships with them over the years—we're adding a tip item to the the page for this week's sale. 100% of the tips collected will be evenly split among our furloughed staff. If you're able to and feel like helping out, it would be appreciated beyond measure by those who have been forced to suddenly enter a very uncertain financial landscape.
It would feel insane to give the usual rah-rah preamble to the beers on sale this week. We'll just say this: Not only are the some of the best beers we've ever made—and they really are—but we've never needed your support more than we do at this moment. If you're currently in the same spot that we are—or worse—we totally understand. But if you're not, and you feel the urge to go a little nuts on your beer selection for the month, you'll have our eternal gratitude. And you'll have a bunch of amazing beer, which is a pretty great thing to have right now.
You can scroll on down to check out the selection for Saturday's online sale.
*Pickup reservations for special release beers are still MANDATORY at all locations.
**Please be sure to read all of the important notes at the end of this email if you plan on purchasing. Seriously, it'll make your life way easier.
ANALOG: WHOLE CLUSTER MARSANNE & GRENACHE
This edition of Analog is the result of racking some of our delicious foeder-aged rye grisette, Transit of Venus, onto 5 lbs per gallon of whole cluster Marsanne and Grenache grapes from Love Ranch Vineyard in the Madera Foothills of the San Joaquin Valley. Then, we aged the whole shebang for 4 months in a terra cotta amphora, adding a beautiful minerality to the funky, grape-laden character. It’s a seriously beautiful marriage of liquid media, and we’re pretty psyched to share it with you.

We treated this hefty imperial stout to a bevy of our finest adjuncts, loading it up with 10 lbs per barrel of toasted coconut and 10 lbs per barrel of unsweetened coconut before topping it off with .25 lbs per barrel of Ugandan vanilla beans. It’s a wildly successful confluence of decadent dessert flavors that’s virtually guaranteed to set the palate ablaze with pleasure.

MAKIN' TIME (COLLAB W/ CELLARMAKER)
We circled up with the excellent folks at Cellarmaker to craft this hoppy pilsner, built on a malt base of pilsner and a little raw wheat, and subsequently hopped with Perle, Nelson, Galaxy, and Strata hops. It’s complex, aromatic, and epically crispy, which is pretty ideal for summer drinking activities.

NEVERWHERE
**This beer is alive! And was fermented with Brettanomyces, a yeast known to ferment further than traditional ale yeasts. This beer is in a tasty spot right now. We suggest storing it cold and drinking it immediately
We’re extremely excited to drink this beer again. Fermented with an irrepressibly tropical strain of Brett yeast and hopped with generous amounts of 100% Citra hops, this beer is an explosion of pineapple-laden tropical fruit character, without the tartness or funk typically associated with Brett beers. We think you’re going to dig it.

DOUBLE DRY-HOPPED HEDGE WITCH DIPA
One of our most beloved hazy DIPAs gets the royal treatment, double dry-hopped with staggering amounts of Citra, Citra cryo, and Amarillo hops. If a murky vortex of pineapple, ripe peach, mango, & juicy citrus interests you, we’d highly recommend getting you some.

DOUBLE DRY-HOPPED MT6!
This megalithic beacon of beveragecraft, is what happens when you double dry-hop an already spectacular DIPA with even more mountainous quantities of Strata, Citra, & Motueka hops. Ready your grill-piece for an unrelenting blastwave of tropical, citrusy radness.

MONSTERS' PARK BARREL-AGED COFFEE BEANS
This caffeinated maelstrom of pure awesomeness was achieved via aging each component of our Black House Blend coffee separately in barrels that had previously housed Monsters’ Park imperial stout. After a month in barrels, the beans were blended and roasted, emerging victoriously as a stunningly beautiful coffee with bold notes of maple syrup, vanilla custard, and tropical fruit. It’s a seriously bomb cup of coffee, and well worth all the effort.
Format: 8oz bag
Price: $20
Total Quantity: 141
WIZARD BLEND COFFEE BEANS
This caffeinated powerhouse is an unquestionably worthy counterpart to the eponymous and widely-beloved imperial stout. A tag-team 50/50 smackdown of two killer bourbon barrel-aged coffees—Guatemala Huehuetenango & Colombia Huila Santa Rita—this regal beast is replete with rich chocolate brownie, cherry cordial, & caramel character. It’s pretty frickin’ rad. This is a new batch, freshly roasted to order.
Format: 8oz bag
Price: $20
Total Quantity: 115
Important notes regarding this month's sale:
- Although some tasting rooms are beginning to reopen, you still MUST make reservations for your special release beer pick-ups.
- For the safety of all involved, you must wear a mask during pick-up. This is mandatory.
- These items have a 30-day pickup window across the board ending on 8/16/20. Yep, everything. 30 days only.
- The first day to pick-up will be 7/15 in San Diego / Los Angeles / Encinitas and 7/17 in Oakland / Portland / Santa Barbara.
- Reservations for the first two weeks of pick-up times will be available on the sale page. Again, be sure to check out separately with your reservation time, and do not add it to the cart with your beer. Thanks!
- If you try to put your reservation time in the same cart with your special release beer, the site won't let you check out. You must check out separately with your reservation time. Just make sure to use the same email for both checkouts so we can look up your order and have your beer ready for you.
- We've expanded our hours and added WAY more reservation times for this sale, so securing a time to pick up your beers should be far easier this time around.
During high traffic times, the website will sometimes display the following message when you're trying to purchase a beer: “Sorry, this product’s stock has all been reserved. Please try again later.” This does not mean that the beer is sold out. It's a site error that results from high traffic and lots of requests for a particular beer occurring simultaneously. If you wait a while and keep trying, that beer may become available again. A beer is not actually sold out until there is a "sold out" banner displayed over its image in the store. It's annoying, and we're working with our web-store developers to get it fixed, but realistically we're pretty sure it's still going to be an issue on Saturday, and we wanted you to know that going in. Again, our apologies.
The SALE will go live at 10AM on Saturday 7/11.
(Beers will appear on the page at sale time.)
We thank you again—and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future—for your patience, support, and feedback during these immensely challenging months. We cannot possibly overstate how grateful we are to be surrounded by such a truly excellent community. Hang in there, friends.
Cheers & thanks!
The Modern Times Crew
