I’ve reviewed all sorts of beers, spirits, foods, personal care items, hiking /outdoor equipment and even electronics, but today’s review has to be one of the more unique that I’ve done. I know you’re already asking yourself what it could be, so I won’t make you wait any longer.
Today I’ll be test-driving the Marvoto Belly Fit. It’s billed as the world’s first fat scanner with an image-presenting ultrasound technology. Yes that’s right…it’s a portable consumer-level fat scanner that integrates with the Belly Fit App that you download to your phone. The device is currently on pre-order on Indiegogo, but the makers asked me to check it out.
First up, here are some of the features of the device as presented by the manufacturer:
Start Keeping Fit with Daily Tracking on Body Fat
Belly Fit reads the level of fat below your skin in 2 seconds! It gives you a clear&accurate visual read-out on the thickness of your belly fat by using the powerful Belly Fit app! It's able to check belly&arm. Let's keep track of the weight-loss program
Visualized Fat within 2s in a safe way
After calculating with ultrasound signals, Belly Fit presents the thickness of subcutaneous fat and produces ultrasound images, while ultrasound has been safely using for 64 years since 1956
Track Body Fat & Benchmark
No worries about the changing figures of fat! Belly Fit presents weekly line charts for recording the changes when measuring fat scientifically considering industry benchmarks and your personal data.
To test drive the device, I first installed the Belly Fit App on my phone. I should state up front that I’m what I would call a very active person and I average roughly 25-miles a week in workouts alone. With that in mind, I decided to get a baseline measurement from the Belly Fit.
The device and app started up easily and I went right for the belly area. I used the included gel and as I expected, there was very little sensation or discomfort using the device. It’s a one button operation and really easy to use with the device plugged into my cell phone and you feel nothing. I did try the device on my arms as a reference, but the belly seems to be the best way to measure your overall fat levels (at least for me).
The results/readings come in quickly and you can even chart your progress on different areas of the body. I was a 1.3cm initially and over the course of a 10-days, I did manage to get my level to drop to 1.2cm. This is actually what I would expect because I work out pretty consistently and vigorously on a daily basis. I was actually more surprised that the measurement went down a bit, but I did focus much of the week on abdominal exercise for testing purposes.
The charts and graphs are really clear and informative and the device does suggest whether your fat thickness would be considered, thin, normal or above that. The app is easy to find if you search “Marvoto Belly Fit” in your app store and it basically behaves like a consumer level ultrasound device (20.15MB download). The app also lets you share your results on social media if you so desire.
The Marvoto Belly Fit device and app are a really useful way to get beyond the simple measurement of weight that most of us use to gauge our exercise effectiveness. The ability to measure specific areas of your body for fat levels and track that measurement over time really makes for a unique and effective way to measure your workout results.
This device is new and just hitting Indiegogo now, so get out there and try the Marvoto Belly Fit for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
