Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Indeed Brewing Mexican Honey Light
I’m always excited to sample some of the unique beers coming out of Indeed Brewing in Minneapolis, MN, and today is no different.  Back in April 2017 I sampled what I would call the not-so-distant cousin of today’s beer.  Back then the beer was simply called Mexican Honey, and it was an imperial lager.  I really liked the beer back then and I’ll admit I was really surprised to find (after drinking one) that it was a very sneaky 8%-AbV.

Jump forward to 2019, and Indeed Brewing has decided to revisit this beer, but to remake it into what they are now calling Mexican Honey Light Lager.  The goal for brewing this beer was to retain the flavor profile of the original beer, but to offer a beer that is lighter in both AbV and calorie count.  This new version is brewed with Pilsner, Vienna & Acidulated malts as well as Amarillo hops and I’d say that at 5.2%-AbV, they definitely lightened up the beer.  Of course the imported Mexican Orange Blossom honey remains in the mix, and by adjusting the malt bill to a lower pH, and adding a touch of lime and orange peel, they actually highlighted the citrus presence already in the honey.  I can’t wait any longer to taste it, so off we go.

Mexican Honey Light Lager pours a crystal golden color, with the citrus I was expecting in the nose along with a bit of honey, biscuit and a herbal/floral aroma.  The honey really contributes to the flavors of this beer and if you’re expecting it to be sweet, you’re partially right.  The dull sweetness of honey is certainly there, but the citrus notes and Amarillo hops really balance the sweet out nicely.  The beer is 10 IBU but the carefully created balance really allows the honey and hops to shine.  Overall this version is much more easy drinking and the refreshing mouthfeel and lower AbV make it a really sessionable lager.

Indeed Brewing Mexican Honey Light Lager is available now at Indeed Brewing as well as their markets in MN, ND and WI in 12oz cans as well as draft…so get out there and try it for yourself.  And as always, when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
