Surly Announces 2020 Darkness Artist

Surly Announces 2020 Darkness ArtistFrom Surly:

We’ve selected Surly’s 2020 Darkness Artist, and it is Minneapolis illustrator Barbara Guttman!

We asked her for a brief bio to introduce herself to Surly Nation, and she obliged: “Barbara is a Minneapolis-based comic book artist, illustrator, and bone collector creating stories about monsters, witchery, and making the best of a bad decision.”

Barbara’s work has appeared in publications by Vertigo, IDW, Dark Horse, and Image Comics. Learn more at her website (marteani.art) and follow her on Twitter. Looking at her work and the samples she sent us has us beyond stoked for this year’s art.

Her mission, which she’s chosen to accept, is creating label art for our 2020/21 Darkness line–the OG, the barrel-aged, and any variants.  The art will be featured on bottles, posters, shirts, and, if history is any guide, an unlicensed tank top in a former Soviet bloc country.

You can also get the final bottle from our 2019 Darkness Artist Tim Chapman next week, as this year’s edition of Barrel-Aged Darkness hits shelves. Locals can get their bottle signed by Tim at Zipp’s in Minneapolis from 4-6 pm on Friday, March 6.Surly Announces 2020 Darkness Artist
