From Tröegs:
This Thursday, which just so happens to mark 100 years since the ratification of Prohibition, we're hitting a little milestone of our own here at Tröegs. We're releasing Scratch #400, a pre-Prohibition lager brewed with Pennsylvania blue corn. "Four hundred recipes," says brewmaster John Trogner. "The number itself doesn't mean a lot. It's more about the range of beers we've brewed. We've been doing a lot of hoppy styles lately, but we've also brewed dunkels, pilsners, a Helles lager, an export lager, a barrel-aged quad, a doublebock, porters, stouts ... all in the past year." The Scratch Series started in 2007 as a way to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Because it's our vehicle for testing new ingredients and the best ways to use them, brewing a subtle beer for Scratch 400 seemed like the right choice. "It's that science side, that subtlety side that's most meaningful to our Scratch brew team," says John. Stay tuned for more on why we chose blue corn for this recipe, and start planning your visit to try Scratch #400. It'll be available on draft only here at the brewery starting at 11 a.m. this Thursday.
