First Self-Serve Beer Installation Opens in Texas

Table Tap announces today that the first completely self-pour taproom experience in the state of Texas is open at the Oz. Tap House in Austin’s Four Points neighborhood.

The founders of Table Tap and Oz. Tap House worked closely with legislators to revisit the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code to formally allow self-pour establishments in the state. The Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission submitted a new interpretation of the Alcoholic Beverage Code §5.57 in a Marketing Practices Advisory (MPA058) opinion on January 18, 2019, stating that consumer self-pour machines are now permissible. It is anticipated that an official statewide policy on self-pour technology will be forthcoming in Texas very soon.

“I am proud to be born in Texas, and I have lobbied to seek approval for self-pour beer technology in my birth state for almost a decade. It is truly an honor to partner with Oz. Tap House to bring the unparalleled experience of pouring your own beer to Austin,” said Jeff Libby, founder of Table Tap. “Our hope is that Table Tap's fully integrated, self-pour technology and point of sale system will empower beer lovers in the Lone Star state to experience a wider variety of local Texas and other fine craft beers 'buy the ounce.'”

Table Tap’s WallTender™ installation offers an interactive drinking experience featuring 40, self-pour taps. To participate, customers pick up a Radio Frequency Identification card upon entry they can use to order food, sample beverages by the ounce and even purchase merchandise. Each tap includes an interactive screen at which customers insert the RFID card, find beer education on each of the featured brews, then pour from one to 16 ounces of the selected beer. All beers are sourced from Texas, and there is also selection of six wines and several ciders on tap. The full Table Tap technology solution allows patrons to order and pay for beer, wine or other specialty sodas as well as any of the creative, local menu offerings directly from self-order kiosks atop Whiskey Barrels throughout the building.

The Oz. Tap House Beer Wall features Table Tap’s companion app, PourTender™, which allows patrons to track pour history, learn about and rate different beers, be notified of upcoming events or promotions as well as purchase additional credit on their prepaid member cards without waiting in line.

Owned by husband and wife duo Sean and Krista Kanter, the restaurant is strategically designed with family, friends and community in mind. The large lawn features cornhole and foosball, and a multi-level deck creates potential for live entertainment.

“We are passionate about the food and fine beer experience, and we knew we needed the best system to bring the self-pour experience to Texas,” said Sean Kanter, owner. “Oz. Tap House aims to be neighborhood spot where locals become friends over good food and fine beer.”

Table Tap is responsible for the launch and proliferation of the Pour Your Own Beer movement in the United States.
