Allagash Pictavia Scotch Ale Returning For 2018
Today we get a peek at the 2018 packaging for Pictavia from Allagash Brewing in Portland, ME. This beer is a Scotch ale aged in Scotch barrels and the beer will remain at 9.3%-AbV. This is the 12oz bottle and here s the commercial description from Allagash:
When a few scotch barrels became available, there was only one beer that made sense to age in them: a Belgian-style scotch ale. Pictavia (the former name of Scotland) has sweet honey and caramel notes balanced by oak and a light tart bitterness. It’s brewed with Special B, Munich, pale, and Caramel malt in addition to roasted barley and our two row blend. It’s then hopped exclusively with Northern Brewer. After fermenting on an abbey-style yeast, we age it in scotch barrels—that first held port, before scotch—for around four months.
