We brought you an early peek at this beer back in June, and now the full details from Stone brewing in Escondido, CA:
Draft-only special release and Halloween blending recipes available only this month
ESCONDIDO, CA (October 16, 2017) – In the deepest, darkest corner of the Stone Brewing beer laboratory a mad scientist has been hard at work. The result of this maniacal chemistry and beer blending gone wild, is a monster of an IPA - Dr. FrankenStone’s Monster IPA. Mysterious, other-worldly and downright inexplicable, Dr. FrankenStone’s Monster IPA is a draft-only concoction available this month only.
The good doctor’s frightful formula is a hop monster. A beastly blend of Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0 and Stone IPA, double dry-hopped with Mosaic and Loral hops. These fearsome Stone beers have been fused together creating a hazy, straw yellow color. From his beakers and flasks radiate aromas of citrus peel and pine notes with subdued malt sweetness. It’s resiny and piney and complemented by citrus peel flavors, ultimately brightening up a truly iconic West Coast IPA flavor of monstrous proportions.
And as the electricity surged on that extraordinary night, Dr.FrankenStone’s fervor rose (and rose and rose) from the depths of the brewery, he looked to the rafters and cried, “From the very first day when filthy bits of slime crawled out of the sea and called to the stars “I am man,” our greatest dread has always been our complacency. But tonight, we will hurl the gauntlet of science into the frightful face of said complacency. Tonight, we shall ascend into the heavens!! We shall mock the headiest of IPAs! We shall command the thunders & the hops and PENETRATE THE VERY ESSENCE OF STONE BREWING ITSELF!!!”
Enamored with its hair-raising creation, Stone Brewing has turned over the mad science experimental controls to fans, with special flights of Stone beers for blending available at bars and restaurants throughout the country. Suggested recipes include “Death by Hops,” “Grim Ripper,” and “Brewicide,” many of which can be concocted in one’s own dungeon, with the season’s Stone Mixed 12 Pack. Recipes can be found online at StoneBrewing.com/FrankenStone.
Come November, Dr. FrankenStone’s Monster IPA will be nothing more than a legend passed down among friends in hushed tones. A beer to be both feared and revered. Visit Find.stonebrewing.com to find bars and restaurants serving this Halloween special release draft.

TASTING NOTES
- Appearance: Hazy straw yellow color, with some haze from the heavy duty dry-hopping.
- Aroma: A lot of citrus peel and pine notes from the hops, with some subdued malt sweetness.
- Taste: Loads of grapefruit peel, lime peel, resin and pine notes from the heavy duty hopping. Some malt flavor as well, to help add balance to all of those hops. This beer has a lot of the old-school West Coast IPA resin and pine hop character, plus some characteristics of some of our more recent IPA offerings, with brighter, fruitier hop character.
- Palate: A strong, lingering bitterness to this beer. It drinks almost like a double IPA with some real heft on the palate. A perfect fall IPA that you can almost sink your teeth into!
