Lindemans Announces 3rd Addition to Botanical Lambics Range: GingerGueuze

Lindemans Announces 3rd Addition to Botanical Lambics Range: GingerGueuzeFrom Lindemans:

Lambic may be known as one of the oldest beer styles around, yet its versatility knows no equal. With their ‘Botanical Lambics’, Lindemans has created a brand-new beer style, highlighting the unlimited possibilities of balancing the sourness of lambic with some unexpected flavours from botanicals. After the introduction of SpontanBasil (spiced with fresh basil) and BlossomGueuze (flavoured with elderflower), the six- generation family brewery has chosen ginger to ‘dry-spice’ the next addition to the range.

“We all know ginger as a very powerful spice”, says Geert Lindemans, General Manager of the brewery. “Finding the right balance for this beer was a serious challenge, as we want the spice to complement our  lambic, without overpowering it. That is why we have actually used galangal for this beer. Galangal is part of the ginger family, but more complex in flavour. It took us quite a few batches to get the balance right, but now that we have, we are excited with the result”.

GingerGueuze

Lindemans GingerGueuze is a blend of one- to three-year-old lambic, that has fermented in oak barrels with fresh galangal. After maturing in the bottle, the beer has a deep golden colour. The harmony between the sourness of the lambic with the freshness of the galangal makes it a perfect aperitif and ideal for food pairing.

“With the ever-rising demand from Japan and other Asian markets, we thought it would be a great experience to do an ‘Asian style botanical lambic’", Dirk Lindemans, also General Manager of the brewery, explains. “Japanese cuisine has already conquered the world, we wanted to create the perfect beer to accompany that” .

Limited volume due to the seasonality of galangal

Because Lindemans only uses fresh spices for its botanical lambics, they can only brew GingerGueuze while galangal is ‘in season’. As soon as the spice is available again, Lindemans will brew a new batch.

For those who can't wait to taste GingerGueuze, a limited quantity will be available at your local beer store, or at Carrefour for an end-of-year promotion.
