The winter season always brings some really cool beers to the mybeerbuzz headquarters, and today’s beer is one I’ve been really excited to try. Right out of the gate I would be remiss if I didn't mention how cool this beer name is…so without further adieu, I present to you Lakewood Brewing Raspberry Temptress.
This beer is part of the Lakewood Brewing Seduction Series, and for 2017 it returns in 12oz bottled 4-packs (available now) instead of last year’s 22oz bottles. The Seduction series has brought us Sin Mint Temptress, French Quarter Temptress, Mole Temptress and even Bourbon Barrel Temptress, but I’ll admit the Raspberry version was really calling my name.
Raspberry Temptress is an imperial milk stout brewed with lactose sugar, vanilla and Oregon raspberries….so off we go. I’m not sure if it was the deep rich black/brown color of the pour or the immediate hit of fresh raspberries in the aromas that struck me first….(perhaps it was both.) The color is “tempting” and you can’t miss the tart raspberries and sweet vanilla presence in the nose. I really liked how Raspberry Temptress leads with rich, deep and dark chocolatey flavors followed by tart and juicy raspberry flavors. With an underlying vanilla presence across the entire tasting spectrum, the sweet milk stout flavors are really well balanced by the tart raspberries..making for a really nice beer. Raspberry Temptress finishes sweet with a soft and silky mouthfeel, and I’ll admit my 12oz bottle didn’t last long enough to even warm up.
This beer hits 9.1%-AbV and 56 IBU so it will get your attention, but I think the beer and timing will make it a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for that beer “lover” on your shopping list. Try Lakewood Brewing Raspberry Temptress for yourself; and as always, when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
