From Chuckanut:
With the popularity of Mexican beers Chuckanut Brewery decided to try their take on a Mexican Style lager with a twist. This Lager is a traditional Mexican style beer the color of sunshine with a light body, slightly bready malt flavor and thirst quenching finish. What makes this Mexican Style beer special is the use of NW grown and malted Alba barley straight from Skagit Valley!
The Skagit Valley maltsters have malted the barley a special light color just for Chuckanut to use in order to create this typical Mexican, light colored, low alcohol lager.
The Skagit Valley Malting Company were able to get a low color malt by malting the grain at a lower temperature for a longer amount of time. With this light colored Malt the Chuckanut brewers were able to make a lager that is both light in color and body! Very similar to Mexican beers such as Corona, Pacifico, etc.
Chuckanut Mexican Style Lager was created for the Tom Douglas restaurants in Seattle. There will be a kick-off beer dinner with five Chuckanut Lager beers on February 17 at 6pm. The dinner will take place at Brave Horse but serve a collaboration dinner between the chefs at Cantina Leña and Brave Horse. Chuckanut Mexican Style Lager will start the dinner. For more information and tickets see the Tom Douglas website at http://tomdouglas.com/calendar.php?date=02/17/2016. Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen will also serve Mexican Style lager later in the month. We hope it brings visions of sunshine and warmth on your cold winter day! Try it with a slice of lime to add a bit of fruitiness on the palette.
