Surf Brewery Releasing Scientific Series Barrel-Aged B-03

Surf Brewery, a small craft brewery, open since 2011, with an onsite tasting room and homebrew shop, and only Southern California distribution, announced they are releasing the second generation of their award winning barrel-aged beer today in time for the Christmas Holiday, under the Scientific Series label.

This is the second iteration of one of our first Surf Brewery Scientific Series beers, Barrel-aged Oil Piers Porter.  Our standard Oil Piers Porter was blended with over two year old merlot barrel aged Oil Piers, and put back to rest in French Oak for almost another year.  The Brettanomyces in the barrels continued to work on this complex brew deepening the aroma and flavor profile, while allowing the rich chocolate and oak flavors to peer through the dry finish.  This one is great with a good rich cigar. Enjoy in a stemmed glass at about 45°-50°F.  The original recipe won a Gold Medal at the 2014 Los Angeles Beer Competition.  Alcohol by Volume 7%, Bitterness (IBU) 33, Color SRM 22.

Doug Mason, co-founder, and barrelmeister, states, “Blends of this beer spent a long time in these barrels and it shows in the stronger oak and Merlot flavors versus the original batch labeled Scientific Series™ A-01, back in late 2014.  If the beer enthusiast is looking for more of these flavors, this is your beer.  At 7% abv, this is a very drinkable beer that one may not want to share with friends…”

We also get a peek at Scientific Series C-01 imperial brown ale age din Belle Meade Bourbon barrels (10%-AbV).
