7 Dec 2015 This UPDATE from Terrapin:
December 8th - Athens, GA--
With another year coming to an end, we find ourselves in the holiday season, surrounded by traditions. The brewery is no different. This year marks the third year of the Employee Homebrew Challenge release, and Side Project 25: “Poivre Potion” Dry Hopped Imperial Pink Peppercorn Saison.
The concept of the Employee Homebrew Challenge, dreamed up by Terrapin VP of Sales/Marketing Dustin Watts, is to bring employees from all departments together to create a homebrew worthy of becoming a Terrapin Side Project. But wait, there's more! Teams also choose a name, design a label concept, develop a marketing strategy, and presented the brew through a skit at the company holiday party. Similar to last year's Challenge, there were no style guidelines.
The third annual Terrapin homebrew competition took an interesting twist, Iron Chef style. Six teams were warned of a secret ingredient. At our annual company meeting, that ingredient was announced.
Each team was required to incorporate peppercorn into their beer. All forms were up for grabs, and the homebrew teams used varieties that ranged from Szechuan to pink peppercorns.
Four judges deliberated over the beer, skits, and label art to choose the best homebrew in the bunch. This year's winner: Poivre Potion has an aroma of passion fruit and hints of peppercorn lead into complex spicy and fruity notes with alcoholic warmth.
From the label: Traditional beers with a twist on their style has been a Terrapin ritual since beginning. In keeping up the tradition, our 2015 employee beer “Poivre Potion” Dry Hopped Imperial Pink Peppercorn Saison, fits the bill. Brewed with pink peppercorns for a complex spice, and dry hopped for some extra aroma, this multifaceted beer will keep you guessing on which flavor comes next.
