Kinetic Brewing Announces Plans For Destination Brewery in Lancaster, CA

Today, the City of Lancaster joined Kinetic Brewing Co. to announce plans to expand from its current brewpub status into a large-scale production brewery. If approved at the September 8 Lancaster City Council Meeting, the facility will not only enable the local brew house to meet growing demand for its many award-winning beers -- the destination brewery will also attract beer enthusiasts, residents, and tourists alike.

The City’s standing partnership with Kinetic began when the owners were preparing to first open the brewpub on The BLVD in 2011. At that time, the City assisted co-owner Myrle McLernon and co-owner/brewmaster Steve Kinsey with a $40,000 façade improvement grant to help launch the start-up.

“We needed our newly-launched downtown area to thrive, thus we invested in Kinetic, as well as other businesses along The BLVD. If you want your entrepreneurs to succeed, you have to partner with them,” said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “Businesses that come to Lancaster are never alone; our City Council strongly believes that a little helping hand can pay big dividends down the line, and Kinetic’s rise is the perfect example of this.”

Kinetic has won top awards at national and international competitions, such as the Great American Beer Festival, Los Angeles International Beer Competition, and Bistro Double IPA Festival. The Los Angeles Times named the microbrewery/gastropub one of “Five Standout” brewers at 2013’s L.A. Beer Week, while L.A. Weekly ranked it as one of the top five “Best Brewpub Happy Hours in Los Angeles” in 2014.

With growing notoriety has come increased demand. This new large-scale brewery will enable Kinetic to produce approximately 64 times more than they can at their current location.

In addition to expanding production capacity, the brewery will feature a tasting room and beer garden suitable for lounging and outdoor games, as well as event space capable of accommodating up to 500 people. The space is designed as an ideal venue for such events as weddings and small festivals, and will be a strong addition to Destination Lancaster, Lancaster’s tourist bureau.

“It isn’t just about meeting our demand,” said McLernon. “It is about giving the Antelope Valley something they’ve never had before.”

“Craft beer is captivating people across the nation, and being so close to Los Angeles, we are in the perfect position to take advantage of this built-in client base,” added Kinsey. “It’s not just a beverage -- it’s a trend, a day trip, a culture… this new destination brewery will be the Antelope Valley’s first opportunity to tap into this huge and growing sector of the beer market.”

The brewery will feature the latest in sustainable technologies; its power will come largely from solar energy generated onsite. The facility will also utilize such drought-conscious systems as recycled water irrigation to maintain the outdoor space and the onsite hops garden, in addition to an EcoVolt system, which will convert wastewater into energy.

“We want to be as close to Net Zero as possible,” said McLernon. “As the brewery expands, we plan to bring even more sustainable features to the facility.”

The new Kinetic production brewery is expected to create more than 100 new jobs in the next five years, and boasts that it will be a 97% American-made facility when it is completed.

The site for the new brewery will be located on Avenue H and Trevor Avenue in Lancaster. The Kinetic Brewing Co. restaurant and brewpub location will remain on The BLVD. For more information regarding Kinetic Brewing, visit
