New Belgium Brews Pink “Reveal” Beer To Announce Baby’s Gender

imageFrom New Belgium:

You may have seen a New Belgium Reveal tap handle floating around Instagram and Twitter last night. The handle was part of a special announcement Beer Advocate's Todd and Candice Alström coordinated with New Belgium and Falling Rock Taphouse to reveal the gender of the child they're expecting. Good news: It's a girl! Congrats Alströms!

A few months ago, Todd and Candice got in touch with New Belgium with a pretty clever idea. Brew one of two beers—a pink beer or a blue beer—and release it on tap at Falling Rock as a surprise to friends and family. Best friend and New Belgium brewer Kelly Mcknight helped the two brew the beer under top-secret conditions inside New Belgium's pilot brewery, with only a handful of people knowing the color of the beer (and, hence, the gender of their kiddo).

"Since we knew early on which sex it was, we narrowed down the plan for a beer to be similar to Treeshaker from O'Dell, with a juicy and fruity profile but using passion fruit and making it super clean and hoppy to add to the citrus profile of a DIPA," says Candice. "Clean-drinking for the summer time. It came out so perfectly. Kelly really nailed it and NBB should be very proud of her working there because she knows exactly what she is doing."

As for the blue beer? The idea was a blue Hawaiian beer with rum and pineapples, which also sounds amazing.

So congrats to the Alströms and the entire Beer Advocate extended family! Maybe we'll see you back here in the future brewing that blue beer.

Cheers — Chris
