BrewDog Finalizes Deal For U.S. Brewery In Columbus, OH

We brought you the news yesterday, and now the official release from BrewDog:

Firstly, we love Columbus Ohio and secondly this is one of the most exciting projects we have ever worked on at BrewDog!

Yesterday we added more detail to the announcements that cascaded from last weekend’s#PunkAGM 2015 at the AECC. And in true BrewDog spirit, we have saved the biggest and best for last. Today, we bring you right up to speed with exactly how we intend to take our beermaking over the Atlantic, and produce our beers in the land that helped inspire a generation of UK craft brewers – not least ourselves. It’s been a long time in coming, but we are proud to declare that we are heading to the land of Independence.

And the region that Aberdeen will be twinned with is Columbus, Ohio.

We have provisionally agreed a deal to acquire 42 acres of land in the Columbus Region and will be constructing a full-scale 100,000 square foot kick ass craft brewery there, giving our legion of North American friends access to the freshest BrewDog beer imaginable. The site that we have obtained has excellent utilities (we’ve already dialled in a fantastic water source) and has the potential to be serviced by rail. When complete, our Columbus area brewery will also house our US offices, a visitor centre, a craft beer restaurant and a suitably epic tap room – all accessible from a fantastic cycle path as well as by road.

We will be looking to install a custom 100 barrel brew-house and a state of the art canning machine as our main packaging line, as well as a small bottling line for special edition bombers. We will look to brew our full line up of beers such as Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club and Jack Hammer at Columbus as well as small batch special batches unique to that brewery as we look to get fresh, locally brewed BrewDog beer into beer glasses all over the US.

We will also look to employ well over 100 people at the new location as well as looking to send some of our team from Scotland over for extended periods, too. We see the Columbus brewery operation as a sister brewery to our Aberdeen one with an interflow and exchange of knowledge, passion, people and expertise flowing back and forth over the Atlantic.

The new facility will be built and then operated in the most environmentally-friendly way possible, as we are committed to minimising the carbon footprint of our American operation before the first ground is even broken. Brewing in the US also helps us get BrewDog beer to our customers there without have to ship it across the Atlantic – which is not just good news for beer miles, but also for beer styles. Stateside craft beer drinkers know how important freshness is; how time-critical hop-forward beers are, both in terms of aroma and flavour (or flavor, even).

Columbus has got a fantastic beer scene already, so it’s going to be fun to brew our beer in this vibrant Midwestern metro. We considered so many potential locations in the US but eventually it was how much we loved the people of Columbus and how welcome they made us feel on our visits that put Columbus firmly at the top of our list. We have a few final details left to agree, as this project is contingent upon yet-to-be-approved incentives and finalising site details, but we are completely committed to making BrewDog Columbus a reality very, very soon.

With BrewDog Columbus there will be loads of exciting job opportunities. We are looking for some senior positions such as CEO, BrewMaster, VP of Sales, CFO as well as Brewers, Packaging Operators, Lab & Quality Managers and pretty much every other role that exists in a brewery. If you would like to apply for a role in BrewDog USA please email a resume tousajobs@brewdog.com.

We are also looking to launch five flagship US BrewDog bars; from the West Coast to Florida to the North East, we are seeking to plant our beery flags in the American Dream with a series of amazing BrewDog bars.

We can also announce today that we will help fund our Columbus project through Equity for Punks USA. Launching later this year we are further building our US community by giving our American fans the opportunity to invest in BrewDog USA Inc. If you live in the United States and have thought about buying shares in us, you will very soon get that chance. Further details on this offer will be released in due course – if you want to be the first to know, you can sign up forEquity for Punks USA updates here.

The site for our BrewDog USA brewery has taken a while to find, but for us to step across the pond meant doing it the right way, doing it justice. From sea to shining sea, American craft beer has led the way since recovering from the darkest days of prohibition. The spirit of the homebrewing movement of the late 70’s and 80’s pushed a generation of beermakers to the fore, and the second wave of US craft beer has become nothing short of a phenomenon. We are inspired by it, we are thrilled by it – and now we can’t wait to play a very small part in it.

We still have a huge amount of work to do on this project, and will update you when we can share more about BrewDog USA in Columbus, Ohio.
