The diversity of Amazonic aromas and flavors
present in the composition of the craft beers made by
the brewery Amazon Beer, located in Northern
Brazil, led the company to be awarded with an
unprecedented prize: two medals (gold and bronze)
in the “International Beer Challenge 2014”,
performed between last June and July, in London.
The Challenge’s jury president, Jeff Evans,
emphasizes the seriousness and the deep knowledge
of the evaluators. “It’s not easy to win any medal on
the IBC, it’s not an easy competition. Our judges are
among the highest rigorous ones, and all of them are
experts in the brewing industry. They don’t give
medals for no reason”, he said. Along 50 other
jurors, Evans evaluates beers’ flavor, scent, appearance and completion.
To Evans, who is an authority when it comes to beers, the IBC silver and bronze medals
are equivalent to gold medals of other beer competitions around the world. “Naturally,
despite all the particularities of different contests, there is no doubt that any gold medals
belong to the best beers. In 2014, only 30 beers received the title, what highlights the
judgment accuracy”, Evans concludes.
Starting with 62 categories, the IBC
ends with just six
subcategories. In which one of
them, the winner receives a gold
medal and a trophy. Among
these six finalists, the great
champion of IBC is chosen.
This year, hundreds of beers
from 30 different countries were
running for the IBC prizes.
The Amazon Beer owner and
sommelier, Caio Guimarães, doesn’t mask his happiness about the acceptance and
acknowledgment that his company has achieved. “The awards are very important to us,
because with it we also receive a great visibility. It shows that even if we’re not at the
center of the world’s biggest production centers, we can make beer in the highest
quality standards”, celebrates Guimarães.
Besides being recently rewarded by IBC, Amazon Beer also has medals from another
international beer contest: the South Beer Cup – South American Championship,
performed in May 2014. The beverage Witbier Taperebá was awarded with a gold
medal, the Forest Bacuri won a silver medal, and the Red Ale Priprioca received a bronze medal.
“The IBC contest is the second global dispute in which we have a beer awarded with a
gold medal. Our goal is to keep the quality and inventiveness of our products and so,
conquer more prizes that will lead Amazon Beer to become a worldwide respected
brewery”, says Guimarães.
Global Distribution.
The beverages from Amazon Beer began to be sold in Europe through a partnership
with the World Beer company. Nowadays, the Forest Pilsen and the Forest Bacuri are
commercialized in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. As an initial testing
phase, these beers are also being sold in France, Germany, Denmark and Sweden
markets. Peter Karsten, who
is responsible for World
Beer Company, has a list
with all the awards received
by the beers he distributes,
and he guarantees: on the
United Kingdon, the word
“Amazônia” immediately
evokes “Brazil”.
“What makes these beers so
special is, for sure, the fact
that they are handcrafted,
they use unique and
authentic ingredients, and they are developed in the Amazonic Region of Brazil. Both of
them (Forest Pilsen and Forest Bacuri) are magnificent to quench the thirst. The Pilsen
will lead consumers to the delightful products of Amazon Beer: exquisite beers, with
fruit flavors and Rain Forest components”, evaluates Karsten, who also predicts that
Witbier Taperebá will begin to be commercialized in the next few months.
