From Speakeasy:
Speakeasy Ales & Lagers introduces the third release in their 22-ounce Limited Series lineup, Untouchable IPA, an all-new India Pale Ale hopped with Nelson Sauvin & Centennial hops. Named after the legendary Bureau of Prohibition agent Eliot Ness, Untouchable is a no-holds-barred IPA exploding with resinous pine and sauvignon blanc flavors.
Originally introduced as a pale ale in Speakeasy’s portfolio back in the early days of the brewery, Untouchable’s recipe was continually re-tooled until it transformed into the maltier, hoppier, Nelson IPA it is today. Untouchable’s focus on bold, aromatic hops can’t defined by anything less than a West Coast India Pale Ale.
“We want this IPA to showcase bold Nelson Sauvin hops,” said Head Brewer Kushal Hall of the new recipe, “But if you leave Nelson to its own devices it can be very herbaceous and garlic-y. We added Centennial hops to pull the Nelson characteristics in a more fruity and piney direction. These two robust hops complement each other to bring out notes of resinous pine, citrus rind, and sauvignon blanc grapes. The intense hop flavors are balanced by the sweetness and toastiness of caramel and Vienna malts.”
Untouchable’s name-sake, Eliot Ness, the chief investigator of the Bureau of Prohibition, assembled a team of Prohibition agents called “The Untouchables,” known for destroying illegal multimillion-dollar breweries and for taking down the infamous Al Capone.
Untouchable IPA will be available on shelves in 22oz bottles and on draft from July through September. Speakeasy will be hosting a release for the beer at The Speakeasy Tap Room on Friday, August 1st, 2014 for International Beer Day with a special happy hour from 1pm-9pm.
