The city [Norfolk] has rezoned property on Northampton Boulevard to attract a brewery, brewpub or microbrewery.
The City Council on Tuesday also created a zoning designation to allow such businesses in other districts. Spokeswoman Lori Crouch said the change makes it easier for business owners to open a brewery, which Norfolk wants to encourage.
The city is among several on the East Coast lobbying Stone Brewing Co. of Escondido, Calif., to open a brewery. Crouch said there's no specific plan for the Northampton site.
Stone, which has looked at property adjacent to Harbor Park for a potential brewery, has not announced its finalists.
