From Upland Brewing:
Upland Brewing Company announced today Breakfast Berliner Weisse, the 2013 UpCup homebrewing competition winner and the third installment in the brewery's Side Trail Series, will be ready for release next week. Winner Tom Wallbank's recipe is tart, refreshing, and highly effervescent. London ale yeast, kettle souring techniques, and German Spalt and Hallertau hops merge to create an easy-drinking beer that is low in bitterness with bright acidity. Lemon, honey, and grain notes make this beer delicious and invigorating- truly the most important meal of the day. Look for this draft-only beer at select bars and restaurants across Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Chicago in the coming weeks.
As an honorary member of the Upland brew crew, Tom joined the staff at the Upland production facility to be Brewmaster for a day while this beer was brewed, and his beer turned out to be just as delicious as the batch that won him the UpCup trophy. Breakfast will be on tap at all Upland locations on Friday May 16th. Stop by to check it out, and try it with a splash of Woodruff syrup! This sweet, herbaceous syrup was ordered in from Germany and is traditionally added to Berliner Weisse to cut the natural sourness of the beer.

Brewery: Upland Brewing Company, Bloomington, Indiana
About the Brewery: Upland Brewing Company has been brewing Ales and Lagers in Bloomington, IN since 1998, making beer in a time-honored fashion that puts their care and dedication to the craft on full display. Above all, they make beer that's true: to its heritage, to its ingredients, to itself. The name Upland refers to the landscape of Southern Indiana, where the brewery is located. The Norman and Crawford Uplands are the heavily wooded hills and hollows that were never overrun by the glaciers that flattened much of Indiana's landscape. The Uplands are beautiful, and they bred independent thinkers and artisans, with a strong connection to their land and their community. Indiana University adds a progressive, tolerant, intellectual aspect to the town. The result is a heady mix of cultures and contradictions: a place where everyone can feel at home. A place that is equally respectful of tradition and open to change. Upland's beer is representative of this place.
Other Upland Beers: Helios Pale Ale (Gold and Professional Best of Show 2013 Indiana State Fair, Gold 2011 BTI World Beer Championships), Upland Wheat (Gold 2011, 2010 Bronze 2006 Indiana State Fair, Bronze 2009 BTI World Beer Championships, Gold 2002 Great American Beer Fest), Schwarz (Gold 2013, 2012 Indiana State Fair, 2012 Best of the Midwest Dark Lager United States Beer Tasting Championship, Silver 2010 Indiana State Fair), Teddy Bear Kisses (Gold 2011, 2010 BTI World Beer Championships).
