From Tallgrass:
Tallsgrass Brewing
is making plans to open a brew pub in downtown Manhattan. This new venture will be called The Tallgrass Taphouse. It will be in the 300 block of Poyntz Avenue, the space formerly occupied by the Jo-Ann Fabric Store.
The location will feature a full-service restaurant and a complete small-scale brewing facility for the Tallgrass brewing team. “This is a great opportunity for Tallgrass to connect with local craft beer drinkers,” says Jeff Gill, founder of Tallgrass Brewing Company. “We are excited about expanding the craft beer scene in our hometown in ways that we have seen on the coasts and in Colorado.”
Besides serving the beers brewed at this location and current Tallgrass favorites, rare and one-of-a-kind offerings created by Tallgrass’s friends at other breweries around the country will be on tap. The Taphouse location will also serve as a “test kitchen” for Tallgrass beers with the goal of developing beers for future distribution throughout the country. “We have big plans for the future, and we need a place to try new things,” says Gill. “ This brew pub will provide us with a great creative outlet that will be critical to the success of Tallgrass’s long-term goals.”
The current schedule is to have the Tallgrass Taphouse open by the end of the year. The Manhattan-based architectural firm of Bowman, Bowman, and Novic, Inc. has been contracted to design the space. The new restaurant and brew pub will be approximately 5900 square feet, with seating capacity close to 200.
Tallgrass Brewing Company was started in Manhattan, Kansas, in 2007 by Jeff Gill and his wife Tricia. Tallgrass’s beers include their Original Pub Ale, Velvet Rooster, Buffalo Sweat, 8-Bit Pale Ale, and many others. Tallgrass is now distributed in 13 states.
