What a great surprise to find a care package arriving for Fordham Brewing this weekend. On board were three Rinse & Repeat Series of beers: Copperhead Ale, Route 1 Session IPA and Gypsy Lager…the packaging looks great…so we set out to sample them.
These beers are part of a “resetting” of Fordham Brewing’s core lineup and they make up a new Rinse and Repeat Series of beers that focus on sessionability and drinkability. All of these beers are below 5% ABV so as you can guess, they are very drinkable.
Up first we sampled Gypsy Lager. This beer is a Munich-Style Helles brewed in a very traditional way. The Vienna and Munich malts impart a classic flavor with a honey-like sweetness at the end of each sip. Gypsy Lager uses Perle hops so the finish is clean and well balanced. Gypsy Lager is refreshing, easy drinking and clean finishing. I also think this would be a great gateway beer for someone stepping up from a traditional non-craft lager.
We next moved on to Fordham Copperhead. This beer is an American Amber Ale and the copper color is beautiful and unique. I really liked the complex flavors in Copperhead and the balance of caramelized malts and Bravo hops really works well. It’s on the hoppy side of the Amber Ale fence, but just barely so it is really easy drinking and very refreshing.
Finally we sampled Route 1 Session IPA, and I think I found my favorite of the three. This beer is very hop-forward and a low ABV brew too, but the malt doesn’t get lost in the equation. Route 1 Session IPA has a citrusy hop flavor and aroma and a really clean and refreshing finish. I found this one to be my favorite of the three, but they were all very good beers.
Gypsy Lager, Copperhead Ale, and Route 1 IPA will be available in six-packs and on draft in the Mid-Atlantic region in he first quarter of 2014 so g
et out there and try these for yourself. All three beers are not only flavorful and satisfying, but they will all make you want to Rinse and Repeat.
