Ninkasi Releasing Northwest Ale (NWA) For Locals Only

From Ninkasi:

EUGENE, Ore.—Nov. 19, 2013/mbb/—Since its start in 2006, Ninkasi Brewing Company has remained locally and privately-owned. Its original eight owners – all Eugene residents – include Ninkasi’s CEO, Nikos Ridge, and founding brewer, Jamie Floyd. In its infancy stage, the two brewed, bottled and delivered kegs and cases to local accounts in Eugene and Corvallis directly, with the help of Ridge’s gold Ford Ranger.

Nowadays, Ninkasi-branded box trucks and vans can be seen around Eugene and Corvallis delivering Ninkasi craft beer to these same retailers and accounts seven-days-a-week. As Ninkasi’s Local Distribution arm, this team of eight works day in and day out to bring beer from the brewery to local fans.

“Ninkasi was founded on the idea that Nikos and I could give the highest level of service by doing it ourselves, a foundation for our ‘Local D’ team; their commitment to this endeavor shines through with this beer,” explains Floyd. “It only seemed natural to create a beer for our most devoted supporters.”

“We’ve kicked around this idea for a while now,” says Steve Lyons, Local Distribution Manager. “This beer was created in collaboration with our brewers to offer something unique to a market that has supported us the longest.”

Straight outta the Whiteaker, NWA is a Northwest Pale Ale crafted specifically to satisfy the palates of local Ninkasi fans. NWA is available now on-draft only throughout Eugene and Corvallis. As part of Ninkasi’s Rare & Delicious Series, this beer is available for a limited time.

There’s a reason that the words “Eugene, Oregon” account for a full half of the language included on our logo. The community that we brew in is an integral part of our company and one that we feel very lucky to be a part of! This is why Jamie and Nikos decided that they wanted to be the ones (along with the help of Nikos’s gold Ford Ranger) to hand deliver all of the first cases and kegs to the bars, restaurants and shops around Eugene and Corvallis. “We wanted to give the highest level of service by doing it ourselves,” Jamie tells us.

While Ninkasi may have outgrown the bed of that trusty pickup truck, Nikos and Jamie found a way to still maintain this service for the local community! We formed our own Local Distribution team, armed with a few more trucks and vans as well as a trusty team of eight guys who wake up before the sun seven-days-a-week to make their way to the front doors and coolers of all of the same retailers and accounts who have supported us since we started brewing beer. As a locally owned and operated brewer since the beginning, being able to maintain this connection to the community was super important to our founders.

Our “Local D” team and the entire brewery wanted to find a way to say thanks to the community for all of their support over the years. Since a greeting card didn’t feel like the right way to do this, we came up with an even more appropriate way to express our gratitude:

With beer!

But not just any beer. A beer brewed by Ninkasi just for our local friends! So our brewers and our Local D team got together and worked up this locals-only beer that was released in Eugene last week. It’s a positively delicious concoction, that is perfect for some of our greatest friends in the Pacific Northwest, and shows that our Local D guys are a lot bit awesome and a little bit gangsta.

This Straight Outta the Whiteaker NWA is an Eazy drinking hoppy extra pale ale with attitude. Crafted by Ninkasi’s brewing and Local Distribution teams for local fans, this beer’s subtle tropical, stone fruit and citrus notes are just what the Dr. ordered! Meant to be served Ice cold!
