Surly - Darkness Day 10/26 & Destination Brewery Ground Breaking 10/29

Lots of good news coming from Surly:

On Saturday, October 26, from 11am-5:30pm, Surly Nation will storm the brewery gates to spend the afternoon at the brewery drinking great beer, eating great food, listening to great live music (METAL!), and celebrating the 2013 release of our Russian Imperial Stout, Darkness. Darkness Day cometh...

During Darkness Day, we'll be pouring 8oz glasses of Darkness 2013, as well as 8oz pours of Damien, El Hefe Negro and a special for this year, a Smoked IPA brewed with Puya Chiles, called Dumpster Fire. We'll also be pouring 12oz glasses of Dampfbier, Cacao Bender, Hell, Furious and cask pours of Oak-aged Bender, Cynic aged on apple wood and tea-bagged Overrated. Beer tickets are $4. CASH ONLY.

As usual, we'll have a bunch of food trucks parked outside the brewery throughout the day. From6am until 11am Glam Doll Donuts and Caribou Coffee will be serving outside the gates. All donations given to Caribou Coffee during the event go to Surly Gives a Damn, which in turn will purchase then donate bags of coffee to the Children's Hospital and Humphrey Cancer Center. It's that easy to Give a Damn!

Stanley's On Wheels, Scratch Food Truck, Gogi Brothers Korean BBQ, Natedogs, Asian Invasion,Groveland Confections and Tollefson Family Grill will be serving up grub from 11am until 5:30pm.

Darkness swag will also be available throughout the day inside the brewery and under the big tent. This year's Darkness art was created by local artist Josh "Jawsh" Lemke. Check out his other work via @jawshtheartist. Josh will be under the big tent signing posters, bottles and anything else you might want him to pen from 2-3pm. Stop by and meet him.

Tell us what you're drinking throughout the day by using the #DarknessDay hashtag,@surlybrewing.

You don't need a ticket for Darkness Day, but if you want to buy Darkness you need a wristband. The first 1,500 folks in line get wristbands. This wristband will entitle you to purchase up to six 750ml bottles of Darkness at the brewery. Darkness bottles are $20 each and it's CASH ONLY.

Darkness wristbands will be color-coded and marked with your purchasing time. If you miss your allotted time, you will be able to enter later to purchase bottles with any other group.

If there are extra bottles after the initial sales, we'll be holding a second sale around 3:30pm with a maximum of four bottles per person (while quantities last). If you miss that, Darkness will start hitting stores and bars on Monday, October 28.

We will have Surly volunteers working through the night and early morning getting ready for the event. The volunteers can and will blackball anyone being a dick in the line. Please respect the line because line cutting and space holding are not cool.

Destination Brewery Update

It's been a long time coming, but we're finally ready to break ground on our Destination Brewery.

This month we're going to start moving some dirt at our Malcolm Midway site, off University Avenue. By the end of 2014, we'll open the doors to our new brewery with a 300-person beer hall, full service restaurant, event center, and beer garden.

We'll keep you updated over the next year as the brewery comes together, piece by piece. We're excited to get going and build this thing. Thank you for your support - and patience - and we look forward to having you over for beers at our new home next year.

The Destination Brewery groundbreaking event is next Tuesday, October 29 at 11am. Surly Nation is welcome to join.
