WILK Friday BeerBuzz - 5 July 2013 - Nimble Hill Hop Bottom IPA

FBBbeerbuzzbanner_v4A little over a year ago we welcomed a new brewery into the Mehoopany, PA area and on to the WILK Friday BeerBuzzNimble Hill was a successful winery at the time and they were working to open a farm brewery on the property.  Owner Gary Toczko and brewmaster Mike Simmons joined us in the studio to sample 4 of their new beers and introduce our audience to the new Nimble Hill Brewery.

A year has passed and much has changed at Nimble Hill, so we were long overdue to have them back on the show.

Nimble Hill has upgraded their former small Sabco system to a 15bbl farm-style brewery….so output is increasing dramatically.  It’s also exciting to see their own hops harvested on-site finding their way into their beers and more and more of their beers finding their way into local bars & bottle shops.

Nimble Hill currently produces about 9 different beers, and we are happy to see more new packaging hitting the shelves.  It was exciting to hear about a really unique package coming soon from Nimble Hill….12oz Aluminum Bottles.  Based on label approvals I expect we’ll see at least 5 or 6 of their core beers hit this package so stay tuned.

It was also cool to get the info on what may be he first beer from Nimble Hill to be aged in Nimble Hill wine barrels.  Turbo Diesel is an Imperial Stout that will be aged in Wine Barrels and be packaged in 750ml bottles in the future.

Of course we sampled some beer today and I was really excited to sample the new locally named Hop Bottom IPA.  This beer uses 9 additions of Cascade and Centennial hops grown in Nimble Hill’s own hop fields and as an IPA lover I can tell you this is a really great beer.  This 7% ABV 70 IBU brew has lots of resinous hop and citrus bite up front and a well balanced malty finish at the end.

It was very cool getting all of the updates today from Mike Simmons
and I’ll be really excited to see the new 12oz Aluminum bottles hitting the shelves in the future.  Be sure to check out all of Nimble Hill’s beers TONIGHT (7/5) from 5-7PM @ Krugel’s Georgetown Deli & Beer.
Thank you to Mike Simmons from Nimble Hill Brewing, Nancy, LA & Joe for yet another
fun Friday.
