Four Loko Maker Phusion Projects Planning To Brew Craft Beer

The vehicle for accomplishing those goals is a new wholly owned subsidiary called Innovative Brewing. It is being set up to acquire fledgling companies that could use a distribution boost or benefit from the experience Phusion's executives gained in previous jobs at MillerCoors LLC, Diageo PLC and Heineken USA. 

“We want to leverage our expertise,” says Jaisen Freeman, 35, one of Phusion's three co-chief executive officers. Potential deals could be nano-brewers looking to grow to the next level or a craft spirits producer that wants to sell outside the Great Lakes region. They hope to close on a first acquisition this month. 

Phusion compares the new venture to MillerCoors' Tenth & Blake Beer Co., a unit created to house the beer giant's craft and import brands such as Blue Moon Brewing Co. and Pilsner Urquell.
