I’m sad to report that after three years of following along as Troegs Splinter Gold quietly aged on oak and slowly bottle conditioned; after posting up the info when it was bottled back in March and after patiently questioning and waiting for the official notice from Troegs….Splinter Gold has unceremoniously hit the streets this afternoon at 5PM. Confirmation for this exciting PA release came from craft beer blogs in Chicago and Georgia. For those making the ride up from Georgia or Illinois, you can buy it at Troegs in Hershey, PA for $22.95 (750ml bottle.)
Update at 11:40PM from Troegs…
Splinter Gold now available in Tasting Room & General Store. One bottle limit per person/per day. In-house consumption or takeout. #PAbeer
SPLINTER GOLD RELEASE
Splinter Gold was released on Friday, May 17 at 5 pm in both our Tasting Room and General Store. Splinter Gold originates from the Scratch #3 Triple recipe and is fully fermented with Westmalle yeast. The beer is then inoculated with two barrels of Splinter Gold (2010) infusing the beer with Brettanomyces for a secondary fermentation in oak wine barrels from Allegro Winery & Vineyards and virgin Pennsylvania oak barrels sourced from Keystone Cooperage. Three years in the making, Splinter Gold is a highly-carbonated, bone-dry wild ale boasting a rich Bret “funk” married with lush vanilla, toasted coconut, and oaky tannins.
Cellared to perfection – pop the cork, pour into a chalice… and savor!
