For the third year in a row, Russell Brewing Company, in partnership with the Vancouver Homebrewers Association ("VanBrewers"), presented the Golden Stag Award and Grand Prize for 'Best of Show' at the annual VanBrewers Home Brewing Contest. Russell Brewing provided the grand prize which includes the unique opportunity for the winner to brew, package, and share in the retail profits of their award-winning recipe.
This year's prestigious Golden Stag Award was awarded to Jochen Farhr who took 'Best of Show' for his 'Villicht's Hochziitsbier Weizen'. The award show took place on Thursday, May 3rd, 2013 at the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver. Farhr's beer will be launched by Russell Brewing in 2014.
"It's exciting to be able to provide talented home brewers the opportunity to brew their own recipe in a professional brewery," said Jack Bensley, Brewmaster, Russell Brewing Company. "And we look forward to welcoming this year's winner to the brewery for an official brew day and to see his brand come to life."
This is the third year that Russell Brewing has sponsored the grand prize of the VanBrewers Home Brewing Contest. Previous year's winners include Saskatchewan's Rick August, for his Russian Imperial Stout (in 2011) and Vancouver's Dave Shea, for his Barleywine (in 2012). Shea's 'Nautical Disaster' Barleywine is planned for release later this month in celebration of Vancouver Craft Beer Week.
