Short’s ControversiALE Coming This Week

From Short’s:

As we fall headlong into March, we experience many transitions, certainly not least of which is the release of the Short’s spring seasonal: ControversiALE! ControversiALE (f.k.a. Hangin’ Frank), is our strong pale ale that’s loaded with hops like an IPA, but drinks like a pale ale. The light, refreshing qualities of this beer make it a perfect companion for emerging from hibernation and welcoming spring!

First brewed in June 2006, for years this beer was available exclusively at the City Park Grill in Petoskey, MI. However, ControversiALE met such astounding success, we decided it was only just and proper to distribute it statewide as a limited specialty bottle release in spring of 2010. Then still known as Hangin’ Frank (named after the mild-mannered ghost that allegedly haunts the City Park Grill), the naming controversy began in 2011 leading to the naming change in 2012. As Benjamin Franklin (may have) said, “Where in the face of great controversy, the great contrive ControversiALE!”

ControversiALE is our tribute to Simcoe hops, a limited and highly sought-after hop varietal. In ControversiALE, the earthy, citrus, and pine laced nose is instantly delectable. Large amounts of toasted grains and high alpha hops form a perfect union that creates the cool sensation of toasted sourdough covered with zesty grapefruit hop marmalade. ControversiALE has an enchantingly straightforward hop aroma, flavor, and overall intensity through ample additions of only Simcoe hops. This shining star of controversy comes in at 6% ABV and 67 IBU.

ControversiALE makes its way to shelves statewide this week and will be available through the end of May, so get your hands on some early and often. Life’s a bit more interesting when it’s ControversiALE!
