We had our pal Pete Kirkwood on the WILK Friday BeerBuzz, and prior to the show, we stopped down to visit Pete. This was in June 2012, and at the time Pete was preparing to make the big move with his wife and kids to the Traverse City, MI area. At the time we weren’t releasing a lot of details, but I’m excited to finally be able to report that Pete is starting a new brewing venture in Traverse City MI called “The Workshop Brewing Co.”
The brewery gained Traverse City commissioners approval for not only a brewery license, but also a small winemaker and small distillers license, so Pete has big plans for the new location.
Pete is opening in the former Right Brain Brewery location at 221 Garland St and construction is about to begin. Much like Shawnee Craft Brewing, The Workshop Brewing Co will carry a hand-built craftsmanship theme complete with an Anvil on the logo, and Pete is aiming for a July opening date so stay tuned.
Look for Pete to start with 7-core beers (Blonde Ale, Biere Blanche, Saison and Session IPA as well as seasonal beer offerings and a small kitchen and grow from there. Here are a few more details from Pete’s want-ads for General manager:
The Workshop Brewing Company is opening this summer in TC's Warehouse District. Our motto is "Nature, Community, Craft." We will make exquisite, handcrafted beers that honor centuries of craft; we will offer a welcoming space for community (and a darn cool bar/lounge/restaurant); we will treat staff and guests with respect and warmth; and we will make careful decisions with the environment in mind. We will serve wholesome, delicious food that's consistent with our values and that amplifies the enjoyment of beer.
Stay tuned and we’ll follow along with Pete…
Rock on PK…..!
