Some good news and brewery-build updates from Jacob McKean at Modern Times Beer:
Color me absolutely stunned. Our application for a federal brewery license was just approved by the Tax & Trade Bureau. By itself, this would be a mere footnote in the inevitably glorious history of Modern Times Beer.
But it only took 37 days! Either I'm a goddamn genius at filling out lengthy, intrusive, mind-numbingly boring applications, or the TTB has really streamlined their process.
Either way, this is cause for major celebration. I'm going to immediately have Modern Times Brewer/Party Ambassador Derek Freese fill a six foot tall brandy glass with green M&Ms, which I will then demolish with a potato gun from the top of a raised scissor lift. Or perhaps not.
In other great news, the two pictures you see here are from the scene at the Lomaland Fermentorium yesterday, where we were finally able to pour concrete. The ~400,000 lbs of rock-filled slop these rugged individuals wrangled into our building will be the floors upon which our brewhouse and cellar will rest.
The controlled chaos of an industrial ballet transformed our building in a matter of hours. We started with two giant holes in the ground. We ended with two gently sloping placid lakes of rock.
A truly impressive feat to witness, and it has brought us another major step closer to opening.
As a reward for reading all way down to the bottom, I'd like to invite you to check out the ever-evolving Lomaland Fermentorium in-person. This Saturday at 11am I will be offering another tour of the building, but this time I'll be accompanied by two of our brewing ninjas, Derek Freese & Alex Tweet. You can sign-up here.
Cheers & thanks,
Jacob McKean
