From Iron Hill:
LANCASTER, PA – On Friday, March 8 beginning at 6 p.m., Head Brewer Chad Rieker and chocolate expert Greg Orth will host a Beer and Chocolate Pairing Event at Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (781 Harrisburg Pike, 717-291-9800). Guests will sample world-class chocolates and signature Iron Hill beers on a pay-as-you-go basis, making this an informal and informative way to experience these uncommon and delicious pairings. A sampler of all four featured beers, paired with chocolates, is a perfect introduction, and additional beer and chocolate can be purchased once guests have chosen their favorite duo.
“Greg has hosted chocolate events with us before, and his insight drives us to create new and special beers to accompany chocolate,” says Rieker. “Like many of our guests, he connects with us personally, and we love sharing our passion for craft beer and his passion for chocolate at tasting events like this one.”
Pairings will include: Extra Dark 60% Cranberry, Blueberry and Almond, a smooth, rich dark chocolate enhanced by a balanced fusion of tangy cranberries, tart blueberries and toasted almonds, paired with Saison, a classic Belgian-style farmhouse ale; Green and Black’s Organic 60% Hazelnut and Currant, a deep, dark chocolate that balances the sun-burnt sweetness of organic roasted currants with the toasted, nutty crunch of organic chopped hazelnuts, paired with Grandma Drum’s Wee Heavy, a full-bodied Scotch-style ale brewed with long-time Iron Hill manager Sean Greene in honor of his Grandma Drum, who loved a wee bit of Scotch; Brookside Acai with Blueberry, a smooth dark chocolate surrounding a sweetened, real fruit-juice piece made from a blend of acai, blueberry and other select fruit juices, paired with Pig Iron Porter, a classic porter, dark and full of roasted flavor; and Scharffen Berger 62% Mocha, made with finely ground Sumatran coffee for great texture and real coffee in every bite, paired with Overload Stout, Iron Hill’s award-winning Russian Imperial Stout aged on chocolate and locally roasted coffee.
