Chicago, IL – On the heels of 18th Street Brewery’s first release, Brotherhood—a Belgian Patersbier, on draft and in 22oz bottles—Sinister Double IPA (9% ABV) marks the beginning of a second contract brewing agreement for 18th Street, with Spiteful Brewing Co. Spiteful Brewer Brad Shaffer interned alongside Fox at Pipeworks Brewing Co. during the summer of 2012. During this time Pipeworks Head Brewer Beejay Oslon, Spiteful Brewer Brad Shaffer, and 18th Street Fouder & Brewer Drew Fox established a friendship that informed 18th Street’s move to contract brew at both Pipeworks and Spiteful. “It just made sense,” Fox says. “Pipeworks and Spiteful each wanted to help [18th Street] get our beer on the shelves as soon as possible.” Fox continues, “I’ve worked with these guys. We trust each other.”
In addition to contract brewing at Pipeworks and Spiteful, Fox will continue to work as a brewer for Pipeworks while securing a brewery location in Gary, IN. On January 26th, Drew brewed Sinister Double IPA with Shaffer at the Spiteful brewhouse. Substantially hopped with Columbus, Chinook, and Falconer’s Flight, Sinister delivers a sharp bitterness with the tart sweetness of tropical citrus fruits. No stranger to brewing the hop-forward ales Pipeworks have become known for, Fox is eager to have 18th Street’s Sinister Double IPA on shelves by mid-February. Other upcoming releases include a Black IPA and an Imperial Stout brewed with molasses.
As of press time, 18th Street’s Kickstarter page had surpassed its $20,000 goal, with three days remaining. Pledges can be made at 18th Street’s Kickstarter page: tinyurl.com/18thstreetkickstarter. According to Fox, 18th Street is close to securing a brewhouse location in the Miller Beach area of Gary. Within walking distance of the South Shore Line, Fox expects the prospective location to be a draw for Chicagoans and NW Indiana residents alike.
