Some release delays and release surprises from Boulevard Brewing’s Smokestack Series of beers:
We love our Smokestack Series beers for many reasons. While we satisfy our daily yearnings with numerous delectable year-round offerings, the lineup is also built with flexibility in mind, allowing our brewers to push the envelope in flavors and to produce small batches with ingredients and brewing processes so unique they can’t always be repeated.
Since we began experimenting with aging beer in wooden barrels, we’ve learned a tremendous amount… mostly about patience. There have been occasions when a scheduled release was to be ready for bottling, but the liquid inside the barrels had a different agenda. And that brings us to Bourbon Barrel Quad, a popular limited release that has come out in December consistently for the last three years. Unfortunately for 2012, the beer has not reached its peak in flavor and aroma, so begrudgingly, we must announce that we won’t be able to enjoy the robust ale until the fall of 2013.
To our barrel-aged beer fans, we say “fear not,” because we simply wouldn’t dare leave those who demand a hearty, distillery-inspired brew out in the cold. While you won’t be sipping a BBQ by the fire anytime soon, we are pleased to announce that another round of Rye-on-Rye will be ready in time for delivery in December. We hope you enjoy the unexpected release of the sought-after ale aged in Templeton Rye whiskey barrels.
In 2013, we’re bringing back some favorites from the Smokestack Series seasonal and limited release lineups, and adding a few new brews we know you’ll enjoy. You can look forward to enjoying a zesty black rye I.P.A. and distinctive coffee ale in the first few months of the New Year. Saison-Brett, Reverb Imperial Pilsner and Harvest Dance Wheat Wine will all make return visits, along with Bourbon Barrel Quad and the venerable Imperial Stout. We’re even working on a few collaborations with industry peers that should add a little excitement to the shelves next year.
As always, we recommend you friend us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to get the most up-to-date news on happenings at the brewery. We hope you and your loved ones have a safe and happy holiday season.
