We brought you the news of Victory’s three new exciting barrel-aged beers…Red Thunder (Coming 11/21), Oak Horizontal (Coming Dec 2012) and White Monkey (Mod-Feb 2013) and now comes some news from Victory on how exactly they found the capacity to start this barrel program. From Victory:
As we’ve been coming closer and closer to reaching capacity here at Victory, we’ve had to make some hard decisions about what beers to brew and which to ditch as tank space gets tight. It’s Victory’s somewhat less-dramatic Sophie’s Choice — which of our children win our attention?
Fortunately, we are approaching a time when those decisions will no longer be necessary and we will resume brewing some of your old favorites (we are awaiting their homecoming as much, if not more, than you are) and releasing new goodies as well. In fact, on a small scale, that time is now.
Our expansion project is on-schedule and we expect beer to be flowing from our Parkesburg brewery in the summer of 2013. The brewhouse construction has already begun and we’ve moved our distribution warehouse from our headquarters in Downingtown to the new site in Parkesburg. This shift freed up some much-needed square footage, which we proceeded to fill with a slew of once-used barrels: red wine, white wine and bourbon.
What are we doing with the barrels? Playing, of course!
We bribed our brewers to put in extra hours and brew up some batches of Baltic Thunder, Old Horizontal and Golden Monkey in order to test what the various barrels might do to the flavors we know and love. So get ready to find out.
On November 21, on a day we are calling “Red Wednesday” (sound familiar?) we will be releasing Red Thunder. Red Thunder is Baltic Thunder, aged for three months in once-used red wine barrels. The result: a creamy, cocoa-y, tannic treat.
A month later, the Old Horizontal that we have been aging in once-used bourbon barrels will emerge as Oak Horizontal. The official release date is TBD, but we are promising that you’ll have some Ho for the holidays.
Then, just in time for our 17th anniversary, we expect our magical, mystical monkey to have taken nicely to a 3-month nap in white wine barrels. Expect White Monkey to make its appearance on shelves mid-February.
