Here’s a new brewing venture in a place where I think it will do very well. The porch beer & wine bar and 2-cents Restaurant owner is planning to open a new brewery at the former Waterfront Market. They received approval from the Key West City commission so they are well on their way….providing they agree to actually brew on-site Details from KeysNet:
Commissioners, drawing heavily on the advice of their staff attorney and planner, gave the OK to developer Pritam Singh to build a 96-room hotel -- think Truman Annex and the Parrot Key Hotel and Resort -- at the vacant former site of Jabour's Trailer Court; and approved a concept from Chris Schultz, part owner of The Porch beer and wine bar and 2-Cents restaurant, to open a microbrewery, bar and restaurant in the former Waterfront Market.
Each item drew only one voice of opposition by way of one resident objecting to the density of the proposed hotel site, and another to the plan to have live music performed on the rooftop of the so-called Waterfront Brewery.
The development agreement initially contained 11 exceptions, notably limiting rooftop operation hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and defining how and in which direction music can be amplified, and was passed with an added 12th exception, dubbed the "Rossi clause."
Commissioner Mark Rossi was adamant the business brew beer on site.
Assistant City Attorney Larry Erskine offered this language: "The beer produced by the applicant on site shall be entirely processed on site in a continuous process no part of which will take place off site."
