UK Budweiser, Stella Artois & Beck’s Lowering ABV to 4.8%

image

Beginning in 2012, Anheuser-Busch / InBev will be lowering the ABV of three of their popular brands in the UK.  Beginning in Feb 2012, Stella Artois, Budweiser & Beck;s in the UK will drop from 5% ABV to 4.8% ABV.  AB/InBev is attributing the change to “evolving trends in beer in the UK",” and also citing the recent shift by Parliament to “encourage” brewers to brew lower ABV brews, but insiders cite the pure cost savings as the likely reason.  With resistance in the UK to price hikes or smaller packages, AB/InBev can save an estimated £8.5 Million a year in duties for Stella Artois alone….so the move makes sense.  AB/InBev did confirm this change is for the UK-only.

  3. Yes the new 4.8 bud tastes nothing like it did... It was a nice tasting beer and has been my only beer of choice for years. Even the fact how Inbev has cheeped out on the labels and designs of their cans and bottles isults my intelligence. What was once a premuim product is now no better than Carlsburg. I'm glad that Inbev are making money in relation to saving on duty whilst dressing it up as some form of drink awareness. Inbev must be laughing all the way to the bank with cheaping out on the designs and tax dodging... Inbev... Go screw your self you global multi-national wankers. PS New beer for me also !

  4. I remember wife beater at 5.2 percent... I usually drink kronenbourg which is a decent lager, saw some Stella on offer at Tesco and thought I'd give it a go. What a mistake, tastes like water now. I'll be sticking to kronenbourg definitely. Ps. I also noticed that cobra has weakened too last time I had a curry whatever is the world coming to?

  5. I am now longer drinking it, it isn't the same it needs that little bit more in it to give you the buzz to know "you're drinking something good" now its just a let down.

  6. Late to the debate but I've now switched from Stella to Peroni purely because they've cut the strength. It had lost it's edge. Goodbye Stella, I loved you but you're not the drink you were.

  7. Just bought Becks for the first time in years (before they lowered the alcohol content), not it is what I call piss-water like Carling or Carlsberg. These companies are an absolute disgrace, the person above me is right when he says they are cost-cutting, even the bottle designs look noticeably cheaper and more tacky now. Yet they blatantly lie and say they are doing it because of health concerns lol.

Think I will stick to kronenbourg from now on, not the best lager in the world but it's the best mainstream lager in the UK.
