This is about as generic a beer label as you can get…simply labeled “BEER".” Not that you can’t figure it out on your own, but the label has the tag line “No Frills.” This one was bottled for Supermarkets General Corp out of NY.

"Supermarkets General" is the corporate parent name of the "Pathmark" chain (big in metro NY, NJ and eastern PA)- altho' the red white and blue striped logo probably gives that away. Pretty sure there was a "Pathmark" branded beers as well at some point (probably from Horlacher in Allentown, which did a LOT of private label beers).
ReplyDeletePathmark's rival, Shop-Rite, in NJ always had better stand-alone liquor stores, tho'. As I recall it, they were often the only places one could routinely find Stegmaier Porter in the 1970's (sold by the bottle or case, no sixpack holders for the deposit longnecks).
I do remember Pathmark Beer....
ReplyDeleteI think it's time for these to come back. I'd buy lionshead (or my bartels beer) in a pathmark bottle for a cheaper price!
ReplyDeleteTrue Professor....you're always thinking!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Pathmark Cream Ale?
ReplyDeleteDefintely! And it would probably happen before Liebotschaner!
