For those that haven't noticed we've been posting for a few days on the Selin's Grove Brewery page some notices about an equipment failure that was preventing the fill of growlers. I've spoken to more than a few people down there trying to isolate what could possible prevent the fill of growlers. Turns out they had a pretty serious failure in their kettle system preventing them from brewing at all. This means they'll run out of brewed beer in about two to three weeks so they are preserving beer for the bar and restaurant and not filling growlers to help keep the supply available and thus the doors open.
I believe they use a 7bbl direct-fired system and word is that it can't be repaired. I'm trying now to find out how anyone can help or how we can support Selin's Grove without consuming the precious little supply of brew they may have. Stay tuned...
UPDATE: So far Steve has been able to repair and patch the current kettle to the point that he can boil and brew beer. A test batch was brewed last night...so far so good. Additional boils are planned for tonight and Saturday. I'm hearing that this is temporary and they are still seeking a replacement setup. Again stay tuned...

I saw something about this on BeerAdvocate and Lew Bryson's blog. Not good! I've never been to Selinsgrove but am hoping to get down there this spring. Hopefully they can get this resolved soon. Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteWord on what happened started to get out this morning after a few mysterious "no growler fills" days...Hopefully they'll find a quick replacement until they can fix or replace the kettle permanently.
